Is Ender’s Approach to Fighting Appropriate?

Posted on

Ender is a boy who has admitted to become a commander at the age of ten. So when it comes to fighting he believes that he should fight till he ends the opponent. Ender, in his situation his approach to fighting is appropriate. This is so that he could protect himself he can overdo it sometimes but it is so that the bully won’t come back. Secondly, it is so that he can get hold of the situation. Lastly it is so that he can give a warning to other bullies not to pick on him.

Ender at his first fight fought Stilson so that he could protect himself.  Stilson was with not alone but with his gang of bullies so Ender decided to not only beat Stilson but actually hurt more than expected. In the book on page 6 it says that “To keep him from taking in a pack tomorrow. I have to win this now, and for all time, or I’ll fight everyday and it will get worse and worse.” This means Ender thought that beating a bully once and overdoing it is better than fighting more people everyday making everything worse.

Secondly, Ender tries to fight so that he can get hold of the situation. His approach on fighting is appropriate because he can gain control of everyone. In Ender’s situation, he has become a commander only at the age of ten. So without violence or charisma, Ender cannot get hold of any situation so Ender fights to get in control of everyone.

Lastly, Ender’s approach to fighting is appropriate because it is a way to give warning to other bullies not to pick on him.  In the book it shows how Ender doesn’t like fighting and actually cried after he beat Stilson because he was scared he was becoming like Peter. In page 6 Ender says as a warning to the gang “You might be having some idea of ganging up on me. You could probably beat me up pretty bad. But just remember what I do to people who try to hurt me.” Ender says all this not only to give warning but also because he doesn’t want it to happen again.

To sum up, in Ender’s situation his approach to fighting is appropriate. This is because firstly, he is still young and is in a high rank so he has to protect himself. Secondly, it is to get hold and get in charge of the situation he is in. Lastly, it is so that he can give a warning to the other bullies to not pick on him and also not let it happen again.
